The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event

There’s 894 days remaining before the Alltech fei World Equestrian Games in 2010 at the Kentucky Horse Park, but there is a world class event coming up in the next couple of weeks that will give us a taste of what it’s going to be like.  That event is the Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event (April 24-27), one of only six three-day events in the world that are ranked at the highest level, four stars.  The competition consists of Dressage, Cross-Country, and Jumping events.  For descriptions of each event in the Rolex event go to http://www.rk3de.org/eventing_about.htm. The Rolex Kentucky Three-Day Event is going to be an exciting event.  One hundred thousand people attended the event in 2007, and this year it is expected to be even bigger.  Make it if can, general admission tickets may be purchase at the Rolex Kentucky Ticket Booths beginning Thursday, April 24, at 8:00 a.m.  If you can’t make it in person, watch it for the fifth year in a row on NBC.

Nov. 3rd Festival and Entertainment Curtiswood Farm (horses from disciplines for the 2010 games)

Genie from Curtiswood Farm is having an event on November 3rd 12:30 - 5 p.m. (130 Robinson Lane) with lots of things to do.

• The Ohio Top Hands Rodeo Drill Team

• Riata Ranch Trick Rope Star Jennifer Welch from California

• KY Artists showing/selling their art

• Pony Rides/Petting Zoo

• A Taste of the Bluegrass

• Retirement of several 'very famous entertainment horses'

Genie also noted that there will be many of the horses that are disciplines for the 2010 games. Chamber members are invited to attend! Here's a chance to have fun and learn more about the World Equestrian Games horse disciplines and visit one of Georgetown Kentucky's local horse farms.

Come Horse Around in Georgetown this October

October 4-7 will be a fun filled week-end in Georgetown. The annual arts week-end and the annual Festival of the Horse will be taking place. This will be the 27th year of this event and it promises to be even bigger and better. The festival began under the direction of local pharmacist John Fitch. It has changed leadership over the years and currently there are approximatley 30 people working on the various aspects of the festival. This year will feature many new activities including horse games, experience the horse, a horse farm tour of farms not usually open to the public, many more artists and crafters, and of course good food. The annual Arts Week-end will feature a juried art show which will be held at the Scott County Museum on Main Street and an art exhibit at the Arts and Cultural Center on Water Street. There will be lots of art to look at and purchase. Come see the wonderfully talented artists we have in our community and surrounding area. There is sure to be equine art too!

The Georgetown Community Theatre will be performing Celebrate Life during this same week-end on the campus of Georgetown College.

Speaking of Georgetown College, the Tigers will be playing Lambuth at home on Saturday October 6th.

Humorous take on dressage

I recently posted a link to YouTube to a video of Andreas Helgstrand's WEG2006 Freestyle Final but another horse enthusiast pointed me to a video that has a humorous take on dressage.

Businesses should research their targeted audience to insure they market their products correctly through the use of their advertising. I mention this not only because this is what I do but also because Anne Buchanan during her PWF presentation said she had already seen a lot of BAD use of horse photography, illustrations or pictures from other horse sporting events that are NOT a part of the World Equestrian Games. Thus, she had a list of what World Equestrian Games ARE NOT to educate the audience.

Anne Buchanan's list of what the World Equestrian Games are NOT:

• Foxhunting
• Saddlebred
• Polo
• Steeple Chase
• Thoroughbred Racing
• Pleasure horses

So be aware, educated and never underestimate your audience when using horse imagery in your advertising for the KYWEG or you might offend athletes, horse sport enthusiast and/or the international audience watching Kentucky plan and work toward the games in 2010.
